Cleaning Mama Take II

So basically this week was alright at parts and not so alright at other parts. For example:
  • Home evening was great. I had lots of fun with my group at temple square and the lights were really pretty. I'm glad we went, even though I ended up having to drive. And afterwards, I was a little hyper and I kept spilling apple cider on myself, so it was an interesting night for me and my roommates (in a good way, I hope!)
  • I barely passed the second quartile for my American Heritage essay. And I didn't think it was a bad essay. But she marked me down for soooo much crap. So I sent her a dignified, yet angry email. But she only wants to go over the essay in person, and I'm not about to go all the way to campus to argue about some idiotic paper.
  • I'm freaking out about my finals. Only a few days ago, I was like "Yeah, finals week is soooo not stressful. Because all you have to do is study and take tests and your done. Piece of cake." But then I realized that my grade isn't as high as I thought in Physical Science and since I got a C on the last not-final test, my entire grade is riding on the final and I can't remember the order of the different wavelengths! Ahhhh!!! And I have to study as much out of my textbooks as I can tonight and tomorrow so I can sell them back on Saturday. And I still have to worry about all the airplane rules and stuff and I can't even remember the last time I've been in an airport and all I remember about being on an airplane is eating that mini cocoa puff like cereal, which was delicious. Needless to say I can't wait to come home for break.
  • It didn't snow here, yet it was bitter cold. And it snowed in Cruces, meaning it probably won't snow around Christmas, meaning I won't have a white Christmas this year. Again.
  • I got asked out on a date- almost. But he wanted to do it tonight, so I couldn't, cuz I had work.
  • Yep, you read it right. Work! I got a job! Marley had gotten a job at the MTC so I was like, "Hey, I need a job." So I went to the BYU employment website and clicked on a random custodial job and sent an email and didn't think about it again until I got a call the next week for an interview that night. I went to the interview and I tried to be as friendly as I could and at the end of the interview, Eric (the supervisor who interviewed me) told me that I had a really good interview. Then I got an email a few days later saying Taylor (a different supervisor) had a job opening and he wanted to talk to me about it. So I went in to see him and basically he made sure I was okay with starting and ending an hour earlier and working at Miller Park with just one other dude and I was like, Yes! That's even better! So I got a job. It was weird, though, because when I went in to go see Taylor, he and Eric were whispering in the next room and I could hear them and Taylor said "Yeah, I know you wanted me to hire her, but I can't remember why." And when I left Eric said "Don't be offended that I didn't hire you. If I had more positions open and Taylor didn't have any open, I would have hired you. But since he did, I felt that you would work better with his crew. Not that you wouldn't work well with mine, but I feel like you would work better with his." I wasn't offended in the first place, but after that, I wasn't sure if I should be or not. I think he said that because I'd mentioned in the interview that I do better on my own or in small groups than I do with large groups.
  • Today was my first official day cleaning. Yesterday, I got trained, took tests, watched videos, learned about chemicals, and watched other girls clean the Smith Fieldhouse. But today Carmen (the girl I'm replacing cuz she got her mission call) took me around Miller Park and showed me everything. Then she let me clean while she took her break, then we cleaned together, and then we sat around for a while because everything was clean. The other custodian, Josh, basically watched tv the whole time. But he's turning 19 next semester, so this next week is his last and this other freshman, Jason, will be taking his place. It might seem like we weren't productive, but we were. I met some cute baseball boys, helped Carmen with her English (she's from Mexico), and faced my fear of heights without dying (we cleaned the top of the cubby things that each of the players has). I'd say it was a successful night.
  • As an afterthought, it was a bit strange, because one of the baseball boys asked if we were "the ja- cleaning up." It's like he thought "janitor" was a dirty word or something.
And so now, I just have to finish the semester strong. Tomorrow is going to be a loooong day, with a LOT of studying, so wish me luck!
